 Puerto del Carmen is the more established holiday resort on Lanzarote which has been welcoming guets for over 60 years. The little fishing port otherwise known as La Tiñosa is where the settlement began with the developement of the Fariones Hotel which was built inbetween the large sandy beach of Playa Blanca and a smaller cove calle Playa Chica. This unique litte cove is surrounded  by rocks and very popular amongst divers. The fishing village has kept enchartment with the fishing boats moored alongside the tourist boats and the catch of the day offered in the surrounding restaurants.

The old town still has its historical chrch Nuestra Señora del Carmen and the bell from the tower can be heard from time to time. When tourism started, Puerto del Carmen coastline was completely free from construction but over the years the resort has expanded rapidly due to tourist demand.

Its an ideal base for a villa holiday as it s a short distance from Cesar Manrique airport and quite central with regard to reaching the north and south of the island. Unlike other holiday resorts in Spain, particular care has been taken to preserve the area and originaly laws were developed to limit contruction over 2 storeys. A colour scheme was introduced for the buildings meaning they could only be white washed and doors and windows could only be blue for the sea, brown for the volcanos or green for the palms.

La Ola is situated next to the casino and is a great place have a cocktail or a meal. It even has its own plunge pool and daybeds. 

You will not be stuck for things to do either as there is plenty to do from windsurfing,diving, trampolining, mini golf, spas and gymnasiums. The main beach is equipped with pedalos, jet skis and a banana boat. The Rancho Texas Theme Park during the day offers a variety of animal shows and by night Country and Western estravaganzas.

Just 10 minutes outside of Puerto del Carmen there is the Lanzarote Golf resort and also Gran Karting which is a Go Kart Trak. A ferry boat can take you from the harbour to the nearby marina of Puerto Calero and the regular resort bus service runs between the capital of Arrecife, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca.
