What to Find on a Playa Blanca Villa Holiday
A sleepy town with beautiful beaches
Playa Blanca used to be a small sleepy fishing village but has grown over the years due to its popularity, to cover the southern coast of Lanzarote. The resort revolves around a 9 kilometer bay which is divided into 3 smaller white sandy bays. The three main resort beaches are Playa Dorada, Playa Flamingo and Playa Blanca named after resort which incidentally translates to white beach in English. As they are sheltered they are all ideal for swimming, soaking up the sun and topping up your suntan. As Playa Blanca is predominantly flat it tends to be sunny most of the time as the clouds gather around the mountains further inland. A majority of our villas have their pools south facing to benefit from the good weather. The dramatic mountainous landscape is visible from the resort and not too far away if you are looking to explore.
The night life is low key and concentrated around the different commercial areas. There are plenty of music bars. You can take your pick between sports bars, live music or lose yourself in a Jazz bar whilst sipping on a cocktail. You may prefer a chill out bar watching the sunset over the sea or try your hand at karaoke! They are happy to keep you entertained, some until 6am in the morning.
The gastronomy excels in Playa Blanca with restaurants that tantalise your taste buds which include dishes from all over the world. It’s a different option from your self catering villa to take a trip out in the evening and try something new. Playa blanca resort centre has a good selection if you just feel like a stroll and make up your mind on the spare of the moment. Menus are displayed outside a variety of restaurants and normally include fish, steaks, curry, tandoori, chinese, asian and also traditional tapas. One of the best places is the Marina Rubicon. It’s a great place to walk around if your not decided and let your senses make a decision for you from all the different aromas escaping from the kitchens.
Shopping for souvenirs, gifts or maybe just yourself? Everything you can imagine can be found in Playa Blanca from unusual artisan ornaments to the latest designer fashion and duty free. There is a market held at the Marina Rubicon every Wednesday and Saturday between 9am and 2pm. The test is to get back to the villa without too many bags!
If you feel you need to tear yourself away from the villa for a day there are a wealth of activities happening around Playa Blanca to suite whoever is in your party. Hiring a bike can be fun and cycling between Los Colorados and El Faro along the coast. Boat trips are good way to spend the day and there is a ferry service leaving from Playa Blanca harbor that will take you to the nearby nationally protected beaches of Papagayo. From Playa Blanca harbor, you can also take the Fred Olsen Catamaran or the Armas Ferry to Fuerteventura. It’s only a 40 minute trip! If you are sports minded, there are tennis courts at the Iberostar hotel, ten pin bowling at the Rubimar centre, watersport on the Playa Dorada beach or if you are feeling competitive but without the energy you can test your abilities at the Island Quest Escape Rooms. For a dive enthusiast, a real treat is in store with an excursion to the world famous Museo Atlántico from the marina to look at the underwater sculptures. Playa Blanca also boasts a choice of 2 water parks. Aqualava, which is the newest covering a total of 70,000 square meters of rides and activities one of which is a wave pool. The Dino Waterpark is dinosaur themed and aimed at the younger children in your family.
Of course you don’t have to be restricted to Playa Blanca with some of Lanzarote’s main attractions just a short drive away such as Timanfaya National Volcano Park, Los Hervideros, El Golfo. another option is to drive up the mountain to the village of Femes for a coffee and look down on Playa Blanca to see it in its entirety.
The jewel in the crown for Playa Blanca has to be the protected natural beaches of Papagayo which are situated just past the watchtower of the Castillo de las Coloradas on the headland of Punta del Aguila. This historical building which was built in 1741 is the marker for the five sandy bays which are a walk beyond this point. They are rated amongst the best beaches in Europe and we are lucky to have them in Playa Blanca. Maybe at some point during your stay you will feel like a break from the villa pool. If you do, the Papagayo beaches come highly recommended. The area has been left in a totally natural state so you will not find any amenities closeby. It’s advised to go well prepared if you want to see these sandy beaches which disappear into the aqua blue waters of the Atlantic. It’s a wonderful and most perfect place to relax
