What to Find on a Costa Teguise Villa Holiday

Costa Teguise was built on the eastern coast of the island to the north of the capital Arrecife specificaly as a holiday resort in the 1970’s. The first hotel was the 5 star Melia Salinas and the resort was intended to be an upmarket alternative to Puerto del Carmen. It ijust a 15 minute drive from Arrecife airport and a good base to explore some of the Lanzarote attractions using you villa in Costa Teguise as a base. It’s also home to the islands first golf course and popular with guests that like to participate in the sport. Costa Teguise has no historical settlement and no buildings of interest apart from the Residencoia de los Reyes (The Kings House). Its a house now owned by the state but originaly gifted to King Juan Carlos in 1991 by King Hussein of Jordan. Its not open to the public but is used by Royalty and heads of state visiting the island.
The white sand beaches are man made and there are five of them in total offering good facilities such as showers, toilets and sun loungers. Playa Cucharas is popular amongst windsurfers and parts of the town have a real surfy feel. It doesn’t matter if your not experienced as everyone is catered for, from absolute beginners and upwards. Bieng flat the resort is very easy to walk around.
If you like to trying out different restaurants rather than cooking in the villa, you will not have a problem finding something to match your tastes. There are plentyof restaurants to choose from and the prices are economical. You can find Chinese and Asian, Indian, steakhouses, tapas, fish restaurants and plentty of British bars offering you a Sunday roast or cooked breakfast. Villa Toledo is a beautiful spot to have or coffee, snack or have diner in the evening. Its front line position in Playa Bastian is an excellent spor to gaze over the Atlantic or watch the sun go down. Historical buildings and museums can be found in the village of Teguise a 20 minute drive from the resort. This is where the largest market is held every Sunday. Evening entertainment in Costa Teguise is a little more low key than Puerto del Carmen but there are plenty of bars to choose from in the resort, some offering a laid back ambience and others with full entertainment or sports coverage. Tucked away behind the Melia Salinas hotel on the walkway of Las Cucharas beach you will find an open air chill out bar with views of the bay. Its a nice spot for a Mojito or glass of wine day or evening.
The shops are a little more upmarket in this resort offering designerwear but you can find also find a few bazars with traditional souvenirs and electrical goods scattered around the resort. plenty of supermarkets, the largest being a Spar situated on the entrance to the resort. There are bargains to be had and a market is held on Fridays in the town square called Pueblo Marinero which is quite atmospheric. Even if your not interested in the market its a nice place to go in the evening if your looking for restaurants and bars.
The good thing about Costa Teguise is that when you book a villa holiday in this resort, you will always be able to find something to do to keep you amused. bike hire, water sports, golfing, windsurfing and the Aquapark which opens for the summer months. There is also an Aquarium in the Centro Commercial El Trebol which is worth a visit. The local buses run daily to Arrecife capital for shopping or down to the other resorts on the island Puerto del carmen and Playa Blanca
