The Atlantis Tunnel is confirmed as the longest volcanic tube in the world which was created by a lava flow underground coming into contact with air. The cave which has been created as a result stretches 7 kilometers.The Tunnel was explored in 1972 and it took 15 years until 1986 to reach the end. Since then they have managed to reach the bottom of the tube which is an impressive 64 kilometers deep. As some of the tunnel is submerged below water it has taken 32 years for a team of divers to reach the end of the tunnel. Amazingly the tunnel is also home to a huge diversity of species, with at least 36 species indigenous to the island of Lanzarote.
