The Spanish president, Pedro Sanchez has once again chosen Lanzarote for his summer holiday destination. Him and his family will be spending 23 days on the island and will be staying at the Royal Residence La Mareta on the outskirts of Costa Teguise.
More than 50 Civil Guards have been transferred to the island to ensure the safety of the president who arrived on Saturday 2nd August on a falcon jet.
Sanchez has spent many summers in Lanzarote and usually stays at the La Mareta residence, in the municipality of Teguise, a complex originally built for Hussein of Jordan, who gave it as a gift to King Juan Carlos I at the end of the 1980s. It was designed and decorated by Cesar Manrique and it consists of ten bungalows, one and two stories high, the main one with two bedrooms, a pool, and various terraces. The views at sunset, with the sea in the background, are one of its main attractions.The property also has a gym, two other pools, a tennis court, a basketball court, and an extensive garden area of 10,000 square meters.
