Lanzarote is lucky to fall under the umbrella of a project which guarantees the health and safety of tourists and locals which has been created by the Canarian Government. With a world health crises taking place the islands are the first area in the world to launch the Global Tourism Safetey Lab. The islands will benefit from new protocals and processes to guarantee the health safety visitors and the local population. The islands are one of the few areas in Europe that have had a very low infection rate which has been enhanced by a capacity for controlling the movement of people entering and leaving the islands. The World Tourism Organisation has collaborated with the aim to help speed up the process of reopening tourist activity on the islands. There are 18 groups within the project commited to defining and implementing protocols for destination management and the deployment of IT developments for tracking and monitoring of visitors.
