51 tons of salt was provided to make the salt carpets in the roads close to the church of San Gines in Arecife to celebrate. Tha salt is tinted with natural vibrant dyes to make religious pictures which are later walked upon during the processions of the festival. The tradition takes place in many villages and across spain with sawdust and flowers being used in some of the villages on the mainland. This is a celebrated mainly by the catholic religion and is arond late May or early June. Corpus Christi means the body of Christ in Latin and is the celebration of the transsubstantiation of bread and wine into the body of Christ during Mass
