The central streets of Arrecife served as a canvas for 19 groups to make salt carpets for Corpus Christi.
The carpets were distributed exhibited along a section of Calle Real in front of the Casa Amarilla, the streets Otilia Díaz, Inspector Luis Martín, Ginés de Castro and the Plaza de Las Palmas, where the church of San Ginés is located.
Every year, the local council provide the 20 tons of salt needed to make the carpets. There has been some controversy in the past as the groups request salt from the salt pans of the island but instead are given salt by a company from Alicante. Unfortunateley the salt from the island is far more expensive and it is cheaper for it to be imported from elsewhere
