The landscape doesnt seem as though it can lend itself to agriculture but another vegetable that is cultivated in Lanzarote is the sweet potato. The origin of this vegetable is not really known although it is probably from South America but it has reached this little island in the Atlantic and and is a product that is very much appreciated in Canarian gastronomy. Many of the traditional dishes include the sweet potato. There are many variety of this vegetable but the main ones grown on the island which you can expect to find at the markets and in the shops are La Cubana (The Cuban) and Egg Yolk.
