International Women’s Day is a worldwide event which is dedicated to celebrating women’s achevements. Around the world there are rallies, talks and concerts which take place around the 8th March, the official day which has been marked out since the early 1900’s. Although its not known exactly how the day materialised, it is traced back to 1908 when there was a march through New York demanding voting rights and better pay for women. It is estimated that over 15,000 participated. The aim is to achieve full gender equality for women around the world which has still not been reconised in all countries and cultures.

The objectives of the day include a focus on men’s and boy’s health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models.
