They drive you mad not only when they manage to bite you but keeping you awake at night with their constant buzzing. The name is Spanish and means little fly. Thousands of species feed on the blood of various kinds of hosts, mainly vertebrates, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and even some kinds of fish. Some mosquitoes also attack invertebrates, mainly other arthropods. Though the loss of blood is seldom of any importance to the victim, the saliva of the mosquito often causes an irritating rash that is a serious nuisance. There are over 3500 species and fortunately the mosquitos in Lanzarote do not carry any serious deseases. Mosquitoes are insects that have been around for more than 30 million years. Depends where you are and the climate as to whether you will be pestered or not but the little beggers are not normally a big problem when visiting the island
