Did you know that there are parrots in Lanzarote that are not captive! They are few and far between but if you find an area that has a tall mature tree they will make you sure that they are around. Very noisy little birds but beautiful to watch.
The monk parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus), also known as the quaker parrot, is a small, bright-green parrot with a greyish breast and greenish-yellow abdomen. In most taxonomies, it is classified as the only member of the genus Myiopsitta. It originates from the temperate to subtropical areas of Argentina and the surrounding countries in South America. Self-sustaining feral populations occur in many places, mainly in North Americaand Europe.
When we are normally used to seeing these birds in cages, its nice to see them free and flying around.
