A common mistake is thinking that the time is 1 hour ahead of the UK, the same as most European countries. This is made by many pilots when announcing to passengers on arrival. The times I heard this which results in holidaymakers spending the first few days of their holiday oblivious to the fact that there is no time difference. If you look at a map of the world, you can see that the island is on the same longitude as the UK, which means that we the clocks go backwards and forwards at the same time. Funny thing is because of our position close to the equator the days stay lighter longer during the winter and we have less daylight during the summer than the UK.
