After a couple of very rainy days in Lanzarote, the sun is out again today. Tropical storm Hermine arrived at the weekend and on Sunday, Lanzarote had significant heavy rainfall which continued through to yesterday Monday. Something very unusual for the month of September which is normally a very dry month.
Although Lanzarote registered in some places more than 50 litre of rain per square metre, it was mainly the western Canary islands that suffered the impact from the storm. Around 50 flights also had to be cancelled in the airport both international and between islands.
Undoubtedly, a positive aspect of the heavy rainfall has been in the area of vineyards and agriculture. For these sectors, the rain has been an answer to prayers in the face of a critical situation.
