Lanzarote council  has launched a new campaign to encourage the cultivation of strawberries on the island. 70,000 plants have been purchased, with the aim of lowering costs for the island’s farmers and facilitating transport from mainland Spain. They aim to finalise plans by the 20th and 24th of September. To aquire the strawberry plants, interested persons must prove their status as professional farmers, part-time farmers or new farmers who present an agricultural exploitation project, in addition to providing the data of the plots where the plantation will take place. With regard to the distribution of strawberries, these will be delivered until the end of stocks, with preference for professional farmers and projects, rather than non-professional farmers.
