Today in Lanzarote and the whole of Spain is a bank holiday known as the Epiphany. The real celebrations take place on 5/01/21 with the arrival of the 3 kings. This is otherwise known as Spanish Christmas day when the kings arrive and distribute presents to the children. On the 6th the islanders buy a traditional cake known as the Roscon de Reyes. Hidden in the cake are 2 surprises. One is a plastic figure of a king and the other a bean. If you are lucky and get a piece with the King you get to wear a hat! If you get the bean you will have to pay for the cake!
