Managers of the tourist centres in Lanzarote have anounced that staff will no longer consume water in individual plastic bottles.Returnable containers have been distributed with the aim of reducing the daily consumption of this highly polluting material. The new containers are made of stainless steel.
Since last August water has been served to customers in glasses at the bars in the Centers and it is expected that this will save the consumption of some 80,000 plastic bottles per year. The aim is to completeley eliminate the use of plastic in all of the bars and restaurants to reduce the plastic footprint on the planet.
Environmental organizations warn about the fact that every year the humans pour around 8 million tons of plastic into the sea. In every second 200 kilos enters the ocean.
