The Catus gardens in the north of Lanzarote created by Cesar Manrique, the islands famous artictect has been awarded the International Prize of Carlo Scarpa for gardens. It was a unanimous vote by the Scientific Committee of Studi Ricerche and The Benetton Foundation. The award is dedicated in the promotion and culture of landscape management.

The Benetton Foundation considers that the Jardin de Cactus reflects the aesthetic sensibility of Manrique and conveys the desire to leave a mark of a past time.

The award was created in 1987 by Luciano Benetton.  It aims to be a testimony of the ties of this Italian family with the territory to contribute to the cultural growth of the communities and is based in the Italian town of Treviso.

The Foundation makes  annual awards for gardens in recognition of a place on the planet with exeptional natural and historic inventive values.
