The name Playa Blanca means white beach. This little town has been built around a small white sanded beach. Originally a fishing village over the years the resort has grown to be the largest resort on the island overtaking Puerto del Carmen. The resort is predominantly flat but surrounded by volcanic mountains. The most obvious of all the mountains is the dormant volcano of Montaña Roja which overlooks the resort. The most popular beaches around Playa Blanca are situated in an area called Papagayo. Here you can find 5 coves that are separated by high cliffs, making sheltered bays. This area has been protected and is now a national park which can be reached by a dirt road. When driving into the resort the the most noticeable sight is the view of the islands of Los Lobos and Fuerteventura. This resort has everything you need for a great holiday, bars, shops and beautiful beaches. There are also water parks and a ferry service to Fuerteventura.
