Easter religious celebrations have started marking the beginning of the journey of Christ on Palm Sunday. The capitals church of San Gines in Arrecife had a solemn service where worshipers filled the church and surrounding area. The service began with the blessing of the palms and branches and continued with special readings for this special time on the Christian Calendar. This was followed by a procession known as the “Lord of the Donkey”. This took place in the surrounding streets of the capitaland was led by the Unión Musical de Lanzarote Music Band. Parishioners, holding branches and palms in the air and singing, marched through the city streets and along the seafront. The procession finished back at the Church of San Ginés with the ringing of bells and the applause of the parishioners.
