If you are in Lanzarote in the lead up to Christmas you will see in the supermarkets and local shops plenty of Turron. Turron is a kind of nougat confection typically made from honey, sugar, nuts (usually almonds) and egg white. It is usually rectangular and can be broken into smaller pieces. While there are lots of different flavoured kinds available, there are only two types of turrón. Hard nougat (turrón duro) also known as Alicante nougat and soft nougat (turrón blando) also known as Jijona nougat because they were originally made in those locations in Spain’s Valencia region.
It can be kept for up to a year when stored correctly.
