Most of the villages around Lanzarote have their own “Belen” which is a Nativity Scene and they are typically found near to the village church or town hall.  A Belen is also typically found in Spanish homes along side all the other Christmas decorations.
They vary is size but all Belens have a stable with Mary and Joseph and usually an empty crib. To see the baby Jesus you have to wait until Christmas morning!
There are some beautiful Lanzarote Nativity scenes and they are worth a visit if you are on the island any time from now up to the 6th January. The three kings will be added to the scene on the 5th.
The largest Belen on the island used to be in Yaiza but this year the one at the Bodega Statvs at La Geria has taken over and it’s possibly the biggest and most beautiful.
Our photo is of the Tias Belen next to the church.
