The women from the island of Graciosa at the north of Lanzarote are participating in a historical ritual this weekend. They will be making the journey down the cliffs of El Risco just like their ancestors did years ago.
This event was born three years ago with the aim of commemorating and publicising the work that the women of Graciosera have been doing for so long to provide their families with the necessary sustenance
This Saturday, October 12 at 4:00 p.m., one of the most important annual events for the population of Graciosera is being held. This event was born three years ago with the aim of commemorating and publicising the work that the women of Graciosera have been doing for so long to provide their families with the necessary sustenance. The day will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a regatta of 8.55m lateen-sail boats in collaboration with the island federation of lateen-sail boats and the Canary Federation of lateen-sail boats, which at the end will have the participation of all the Chinijos passionate about the quintessential native sea sport. In the afternoon, once the women arrive at Bajo el Risco beach dressed in traditional clothing, they will be taken to the eighth island in the sailing boats: Graciosero, Marajamajo, Puerto del Arrecife, Villa de Teguise and Haría Volcán de la Corona. To finish with a small tribute act, a popular meal and a party for the whole town.
