The Arts, Culture and Tourism Centers have executed in the last months a recovery project for the well know castle of San Jose in Arrecife. The historical building has suffered some deterioration over the years due to it being situated close to the sea. The exposure to the wind of north face and just general ageing has meant that the castle is now in some need of repair. The restoration will include removal and replacement of the cement and plaster, repairs to broken stone and cleaning. 1475 square meters of the castle walls have been restored using 31,800 kilos of mortar. A new air conditioning system has been installed which is more ecological in the restaurant which has a lesser impact to the original system. Its quite a job but necessary to preserve the local history of this tourist attraction. It is expected that the budget will increase this year to 1.2 million Euros. The restaurant is one of the more unique places to eat on Lanzarote. The decor is Cesar Manrique and the views over the sea from the panoramic windows make it an especially nice experience.
