The Sociedads are one of Lanzarote's long standing institutions. Originally set up after the Franco years as a place for families to go, eat cheaply and watch the television, they were known as Teleclubs: in fact a lot of people still call them that. Most have function rooms attached that the local community can hire out or use for free. They are owned by the local council but are run by a local family or couple who have to stand for election every three years. Because of this, you often find they are focused on offering great food and drink at reasonable prices so they are re-elected.
The Nazaret Sociedad is on the main road from from Tahiche to Teguise on the left hand side and is popular with locals and ex pats alike.
