International Women’s Day is a worldwide event which is dedicated to celebrating women’s achevements. Around the world there are rallies, talks and concerts which take place around the 8th March, the official day which has been marked out since the early 1900’s. Although its not known exactly how the day materialised, it is traced back to 1908 when there was a march through New York demanding voting rights and better pay for women. It is estimated that over 15,000 participated. The aim is to achieve full gender equality for women around the world which has still not been reconised in all countries and cultures.

In Lanzarote  apart from the march that took place on the 11th and a comedy production on the 12th, on the 18th March there will be a night walk in El Jable which includes stargazing and hot chocolate. You would need to register if you want to take part by telephoning (00 34) 629333143

Yes, it takes place on November 19 each year and is celebrated in 60 countries around the world.

The objectives of the day include a focus on men’s and boy’s health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models.
