September 15th is a bank holiday in Lanzarote celebrating the patron saint of the island Dolores. On Saturday the traditional Romeria took place which is a pilgramage where participants walk to the site of the virgin in Mancha Blanca from their location offering gifts. Thousands of people took part in an event featuring traditional carts, music, traditional attire, and offerings to the Virgin in Mancha Blanca, in the municipality of Tinajo.The celebration brought together residents from various parts of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, as well as folk group that joined the procession.  Today is the Feast of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, an island-wide holiday. There will be a solemn mass at 11:00 am on the chapel esplanade and tonight at 9:00 pm a concert by well known Spanish artists Malú followed by the closing fireworks. During the day there is also a artisan market. This is made up of over 140 craftspeople from across the Canary Islands, alongside Uruguay as this year’s international guest country. Visitors can purchase authentic handmade pottery, ceramics, textiles, and traditional sombrero hats, while exploring live workshops and tasting local delicacies like Malvasia wine and cactus jam.
