A Mythological Journey Through Lanzarote

Some stories help us see an island differently. At Casa Museo del Campesino, Juan Brito y la Princesa Ico brings Lanzarote’s legends to life through the work of one of the island’s much-loved artists and storytellers.Juan Brito Martín (1919–2018) created 22 sculptures inspired by Princess Ico and other characters from Lanzarote’s oral tradition. Together, they invite visitors into a world shaped by memory, myth and the stories passed down through generations. The exhibition combines sculpture with interactive technology. QR codes beside the figures lead to narrated stories and audiovisual content, including an AI recreation of Brito’s voice. The experience is available in Spanish, English and German, making it a welcoming way for visitors of different ages and backgrounds to explore the island’s heritage. What makes the exhibition special is the meeting of old and new: traditional legends told through Brito’s hands, now shared with the help of modern technology. It’s a reminder that Lanzarote’s culture lives not only in its landscapes and historic sites, but also in the stories people continue to tell. You can find the exhibition at Casa Museo del Campesino, in Plaza de los Artesanos. The CACT website lists it as free to visit, open daily from 10:30 to 17:30.
