Fossils have been found for one of the largest sharks in history known as the Megalodon in north of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. The discovery has been made by The Spanish Oceanographic Institute of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) where as a result of 15 fossils discovered a conclusion that presence of the megalodon lived in the seas around the Canary Islands. Over 1000 meters deep other fossils have been discovered for other marine mammals that formed part of the diet of these large fish. A region known as El Banco de La Concepción is located 75 kilometres north of Lanzarote. It is a deep underwater mountain of 2,600 meters and a depth of 150 meters. This mountain was a fertile terrain per species like the famous giant shark which were 20 meters in length and 100 tons in weight.
