The Canary Islands Government gives permission for a million-dollar investment to eliminate polluting elements. It has approved the environmental evaluation of a project to concentrate on telecommunications connections, drinking water and sanitation of the Fire Mountain region. This project has been promoted by the Lanzarote councils departments of Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism and is designed to improve the environmental conditions of the facilities of the Centers in the Timanfaya National Park. The park has allready eliminated one of its existing generators, keeping just one for emergency use. The project comes at a cost of 2,131,292.70 euros and will solve not only the problem of electricity supply but also that of drinking water and sanitation in the most important centers on the island.
