In the midst of a wave of outbreaks of the coronavirus in the mainland  Spain and the latest quarantine measures of the entire country taken by the United Kingdom the Spanish prime minister arrived on Lanzarote for a holiday on Monday.  Pedro Sánchez is staying at La Mareta estate in Costa Teguise. This is the palace that King Hussein II of Jordan gave to the father of the King Emeritus in 1989. In 2015, and at the express wish of Felipe VI, the Royal Residence was made available to the Government, but with a purpose of promoting and defending the country’s tourist interests.

The Prime Minister is set to enjoy the extensive estate, of 30,900 meters, designed and decorated by the artist César Manrique and which also has  direct access to the sea.

The complex is made up of ten bungalows. The main one has two bedrooms, a swimming pool and various different terraces to make the most of the Lanzarote sunshine. In addition there is a gym, two other swimming pools, a tennis court, a basketball court and a large garden area of 10,000 square meters. The palace is designed in a traditional way using architecture unique to the Canary Islands. Built in a colonial style, with white walls and numerous balconies.

It is not the first time that  Pedro Sánchez has used the palace for his holidays. He was last on the island in 2018 shortly after coming into office.
