It was reported last year that Ryanair would be closing its bases in the Canary islands resulting in strikes by the ground staff. Fifty staff are employed in Lanzarote and last Wednesday was their last day although they had not yet received any type of dismissal letter. In fact none of the employees working in the Canaries have had any type of notification confirmed by the union USO including Tenerife and Gran Canaria, which affects more 300 staff. Some have been offered transfers and 20 pilots have been located. Out of the transfers offered they have been told that there are no vacancies in the mainland only in Dublin. The transfers were conditioned decrease in their salary. Five Ryanair routes have already disappeared from Lanzarote and that in the coming months two others are expected. The company has stopped operating connections with Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, Knock,Berlin Schoenefeld and Valencia. the last two mentioned will be reinstated in April.
