This Friday there will be tests on the island by ESA (the European Space Agency) following up on the field work done by them in 2016 and 2017.
Eight experiments will simulate different situations and anomalies on the in the almost Martian landscapes of Lanzarote in the vicinity of Tinguatón. The goal is to test tools and procedures in a real environment with the tools and communicative limitations that we occur in a mission to another planet. This is the third consecutive year in which the ESA has conducted tests on the terrain in Lanzarote. For the past few days there has been a large team of researchers, with the presence of ESA astronaut Thomas Reiter, Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergei Kud-Sverchkov and ESA expert Aidan Cowley among others. The Pangea-X project is being worked on with new sampling tools and updated replicas of the NASA systems used during the Apollo missions which have taken place in the last century. The results will be added to ESA’s contribution to the space portal for the challenges of long-term manned missions.
