Lanzarote has been protesting against two projects which will incorporate two new artificial beaches to the north of Costa Teguise, and the use of sand from Western Sahara be rejected following the ruling of the Court of European Justice. The entry of Saharan agricultural and fishery products into the European Union can not be done without the agreement of the Saharawi people“

According to the judgment of the European Court of Justice, the commercial extraction of sand for the purpose of the provisions of the reports of both projects would not be allowed.

The group Somos Lanzarote have insisted on the need for Teguise Council to reject the execution of these two projects because it it will result in a dissent of sustainable development in the area.
