A request has been made by the Nueva Canarias group to stop the use of fireworks in Arrecife. This has been pursued after other Spanish counties and other European countries have been succesfull with a total ban.
The noise caused by firecrackers and fireworks can cause harm to animals with the effects causing tachycardia, asphyxia, nausea, loss of control and even death. The uncontrolled noise also makes them run or boltwhich in turn causes pet losses and in some cases causing crashes by vehicles. Its also argued that its not only animals that suffer but also the elderly, babies and sick people.
