The remains of the Greek cargo ship Telamón arrived in Lanzarote on 31st October 1981. It had declared a fire on board of its cargo which consited of timber logs and was not alowed to enter the port of Arrecife to stopover. 2017 marks the 36th anniversary of the ships arrival from San Pedro on the Ivory Coast in Africa. The Greek ship was heading for the city of Thessaloniki through the strait between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote when the fire broke out and the hull flooded

The captain of the Telamón decided otainin help and refuge in Los Marbles. With great skill, the captain and the crew managed to reach shore safely.

For many years some of its enormous trunks fron the cargo were exhibited like sculptures on several roundabouts on the island. Since then the remains of the freighter have remained in Los Marmoles and it has become known as  the ‚ghost‘ boat. The Telamon prepares to release anchors and its new new journey will begin to be scrapped.
