The most southern islands in the Canaries already are home to observatories and the telescopes play an important part in discovering what lies beyond our planet. The high mountains and clear night skies make this a perfect place to install this equipment. Its no great surprise that the National Geographic Institute are going to install a new radio telescope with a diameter of 13.2 meters in Artenara, Gran Canaria at a cost of six million Euros. The telescope will be integrated with a further 40 radio telescopes situated around the world to study the movement of the earths crust.
