Its nearly upon us. Carnival has finished and most people are preparing for the Easter holidays. Here in Lanzarote the bank holidays fall on a different day. Instead of the bank holiday Monday, the bank holidays are Thursday and Friday merging into the weekend and including Saturday and Sunday.

The Easter holidays here are known as Semana Santa and it is an extremely religious festival with the faith of the country being Catholic dating back to the th century when the church decided to present the story of the passion of Christ. In the south of mainland Spain mainly Andalusia there are processions through the day and night where locals carry effigies of saints, the virgin Mary and Jesus. The figures are extremely heavy. Unfortunately in Lanzarote there are no elaborate processions
