The Almacen bar in the capital of Arrecife is no ordinary bar. It is the union of 2 houses from the 19th century and a place of cultural importance. It represents domestic architecture and was the of an art school until 1973 when it came into the possession of Cesar Manrique. After some modernisation Marique opened the building in 1974 as a cultural center for the appreciation of art. He later went on to sell the building to the local council in 1989 who dedicated the building to education and culture.
After a number of years closed to the public, the bar has now re opened with a menu of creative specialities
