Not many people would probably think of venturing into Arrecife capital whilst on holiday. In the past you had to time it just right as the shops closed during the afternoon during the week for siesta and over the weekends it was generally like a ghost town. Things have changed over the past couple of years and there has been quite a bit of development around El Charco de San Gines and the new neighboring marina. So, when the shops close its a good idea to maybe take a walk around this picturesque lake and walk over to the marina.

The lake is tidal and the access from the sea is under a bridge from a road that runs along side the sea. Filled with small boats and surrounded by small cafe bars and restaurants it doesn’t take long to walk around. The best time for me is the evening especially if you get a nice sunset over the city.
Best of all the tapas bars are cheap and the food is good.
