There are many processions and customs that take place over the whole of Spain during Easter. Being a Catholic country and very religious this time of year is taken very seriously. As traditions differ, Lanzarote has a custom called the Procesión de las Mantillas. This is as all procesions during this time a solemn and iconic Good Friday parade in Arrecife. Women will dress in traditional white clothing with black scarfs and parade through the capital’s streets. along with them there will be religious floats. This takes place close to the Charco de San Ginés. The moment provides reflection and solemnity during the island’s Easter celebrations. A deeply reverent atmosphere often featuring silent presence or quiet music, particularly during the Procession of the Soledad. This, along with another called the Procession of the Encounter, constitutes one of the most moving religious spectacles on the island.
