Glancing up at mountains on the highest point of the island in the north on the west coast a prominant object simular to a giant golf ball has been visable for many years. Those who are curious are aware that inside this ball is a radar. The Spanish air force have just installed a new pioneering radar to replace the Italian radar system that has operated for over 20 years. It is called the Lana LMM system as thje island is the first place where it has been installed. It was presented on Friday by the 22nd Air Vigilance Squadron, which has had a presence at this peak for over 50 years, Thjis has been marked as huge leap in quality that will improves vigilance and the defence of Canarian air space and will be used for assistance for civil aircraft as well as military forces.
