Next Saturday, November 29, the Jameos del Agua Auditorium will host the arrival of DIQUE, a show by Nova Galega de Danza, which will also be the first production of the 5th edition of the Performing Arts Festival: Escena Lanzarote.DIQUE was born from the desire to recover a forgotten story: that of the more than 200 women who, between 1874 and 1879, excavated the Campana Dam in Ferrol, one of the largest hydraulic engineering projects of the 19th century in Spain. These workers, known as the stevedores, carried thousands of baskets of earth and stone on their heads, performing the same work as the men, but for less pay. Based on this true story, Nova Galega de Danza has created a performance that fuses traditional Galician dance with contemporary language, a hallmark of the company. It is a tribute and a contemporary reflection on resilience, effort, sisterhood, and female empowerment, enveloped in a powerful visual presentation that combines colors, textures, and contrasts.
