Tomorrow 30th May is el „Dia de Canarias“ translated as The day of the Canary Islands. It’s a bank holiday on the islands and in different towns and villages festivities are held as people celebrate their culture and traditions.
The day celebrates the first official parliamentary session held by the Canary island Government and this happened around 10 months after the islands became an autonomous region of Spain.
If you are on the island you will no doubt see many people wearing the traditional costumes. Especially children who go to school wearing them and enjoy playing some of their traditional sports and experiencing some local food.
Supermarkets display local products and the villages come together to celebrate the day.
