A Special and traditional treat from the Canaries are little sweet pasties called Truchas.The first document that mentions Truchas is from 1736, a year after the last eruption of Timanfaya, while nougat was not consolidated on the island until well into the 20th century. Most Lanzarote families have nougat at home during the Christmas holidays, but It is a custom that was not consolidated in Lanzarote until well into the 20th century.The document in question is a book from the Convent of Nuestra Señora de Consolación, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In it, there is evidence of the payment of ninety-four reales for two sources of candy for the general and beneficiary; and other sweets such as truchas and dried donuts, songecakes and rose honeycomb for the devotees. There are many different variants of Truchas traditional and modern throughout the eight Canary Islands, is a unique product of the archipelago.
