A restaurant in Playa Blanca has been recognised by the Michelin Guide and after being open just 5 years, has become the first ever restaurant in Lanzarote to win a Michelin star.
The restaurant is called Kamezi and is located in Playa Blanca. Kamezí’s gastronomic project is developed around the island’s produce and the enhancement of the work of Lanzarote’s suppliers. According to Koldo Eguren, owner and head of the project «it is our way of giving back to the island everything it offers us, that is why we have always been very loyal to our local commitment from the beginning».
The Toledo chef Rubén Cuesta, leader of the Kamezí kitchen team, accepted the Michelin star on the stage of the prestigious guide’s gala. From its culinary heritage of La Mancha and its knowledge of Canarian cuisine, comes a proposal that delves into the origins of the island’s recipe book, making the best use of the products offered by the island.
The Michelin star recently obtained «is a boost to the passion and commitment necessary to strengthen the project and look forward to the future» according to Koldo Eguren, who also hopes that this will be the first star for a gastronomy like Lanzarote’s, which has been rightly claiming its place on the map of haute cuisine.
