Many of  the regular tourists that visit the island will be familliar with  the story of Los Dolores and the religious  importance of The Virgin of Los Volcanes. The little church in Manca Blanca that was saved from the volcanos by her, is home to effigy of Dolores and visited by many locals and tourists. On Monday a decision was made followed by an anouncement that the efigy will descend to the capital Arrecife on November 30, to remain for eight days in the church of San Ginés. It will be the third  time this has happened in the entire island’s history. This pastoral decision is in response to a demand from the public, from those who experienced the last pilgrimage 59 years ago, alluding to the descent of 1965, and from the new generations who wish to experience this event mentioned by their elders. It will be carried from dawn until late afternoon of about 18 kilometers. There will be a stop in front of the Tao volcano, as this year marks the second centenary of its eruption. There will be stops in the municipalities of Teguise and San Bartolomé, after leaving Tinajo and with Arrecife as the destination. This event will be unique in the islands history.
