Anyone that has visited the north of the island may have seen one of the spectacular elevated panoramic viewpoints that overlooks the island of La Graciosa. You may also have may also have seen the steps that lead down the steep incline to reach the untouched beaches below or made the journey down the steps yourself. Did you know that these steps played an important part in the history of both islands? They were used by the women of La Graciosa to bring fish to Lanzarote and if you have made the climb you will know how difficult their job had been. To pay tribute, on Saturday afternoon the second edition of the Bajada del Risco will take place, with women from the island of La Graciosa. In order for this event to be as traditional as possible, they will wear traditional clothing. When they reach the Bajo El Risco beach, there will ben sailing boats  waiting to cross the sea to arrive at Caleta de Sebo. There will be 3 boats ‘El Graciosero’, ‘Villa de Teguise’ and ‘Volcán de la Corona’ and on arrival the expedition will be received by a party of smaller boats in honour of the pilgrimage which will continue through the streets of the town. The tour will end in the Plaza del Cactus and met by the older women who used to make the journey years ago. This will all be followed of course by a fiesta!
