The Canary Islands are among the autonomous communities in Spain with the lowest degree of ozone pollution according to a report presented by Ecologists in Action. With reference to the objective value established by the European directive on air quality, 24.6% of the Spanish population have taken a breath of contaminated air this year.
This percentage rises to 85.3 percent if the ozone value recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) is taken into account, which means that six out of seven Spaniards have breathed contaminated air so far this year which equates to 39.7 million people.
