Arrival and Departure at Arrecife Airport

Lanzarote has one airport which is known as Lanzarote Arrecife Airport or Guacimeta Airport, airport code ACE. The original airfield was built at Llanos de Guacimeta and the first aircraft landed here in 1941. With the arrival of tourism, a new passenger terminal  was opened in 1970. Many of us remember having to collect the luggage from the side of the aircraft and walk to the terminal building!

As tourism grew here on the island, it was decided to build a new passenger terminal building and in 1999 what we now know as Terminal One was opened for international flights. The original terminal has now become Terminal Two and services the Inter-Island flights.
Terminal 1 is set across two floors with departures (Salidas) on the ground floor and Arrivals (Llegadas) on the lower floor.

On the approach to Lanzarote, you normally fly over the island and then bank round out to sea with the east coast to your left. On a good day you can see Playa Quemada, Puerto Calero and Puerto Del Carmen as you come into land over the beach of Matagorda. If there is no wind or a different wind direction then the approach is directly across the island and across the main dual carriageway.

On arrival to Arrecife Airport, after passing through Passport Control, there are 4 luggage collection belts, public toilets at each end of the luggage hall and a small Duty Free Shop. Those hiring cars will see some of the car hire companies have offices at this point so while one member of the party is waiting for luggage, the other can go across and start with the paperwork for the car.
Exit is through the double doors and into the Arrivals Hall where you will find most of the company representatives waiting. For those with coach transfers to resort, the coach car park is off to the right; the taxi rank is directly outside. There is a small Tourist Information here too, a cash machine and a cafe. Some of the car hire companies have their cars parked in a small car park in front of the the Arrivals Hall where others have representatives that meet clients at the meeting Point in the main car park opposite the Departures Hall.

If you have a departing flight, there is a drop off area outside Departures and there is a main car park opposite. Parking is very reasonable, unlike UK airports and is approximately 1 Euro for 0-60 minutes parking. Inside the Departures Hall are the 43 Check- in Desks, a cafe, newsagent, lottery office, cash machines , public toilets at either end and the airline offices. The Terminal was refurbished in 2015 and Security was moved to the left hand side. Although better than before, Security can still have long queues so be sure to arrive in plenty of time to check in and pass security. Once through Security, there is a large Duty Free shop, various shops selling Lanzarote wines and cheeses, a clothes shop, shoe shop, jewellers and several eateries including a Pizza Hut and a Burger King.  There are public toilets at each end and also in the middle of the Departure Lounge and plenty of seating both inside and out.
There is a VIP Lounge at Arrecife which is open from 6am until the last flight departs. Passengers travelling with Club Cards and Business Class tickets with associated airlines can use the lounge or you can buy passes online through the airports official page here – Buy VIP Lounge Passes Here

Once you have arrived all that is left is for you to enjoy your holiday!
